Where can I find the source code for this function: esp_wifi_scan_start().
Is it available?
The esp-idf repository has header files and examples only.

From reading on the forums for a while, I believe that all WIFI/BT code is closed-source and proprietary. To us, we'll never see more than the header files.

IMHO there is no such. You can find some notes in
this thread speaking about ROM content.
