Read back flash memory

Hi all
I would like to read back the contents of an ESP32 for safe keeping. Then program it with my own code. If I am unable to achieve what I want I want to be able to flash back the contents from the safe so I can still use the device as was given to me.

I am unsure what tools are available? is it the flash download utility or can I use one of the python tools in IDF for this?
