BLE Causes NVS to fail with ESP_ERR_NVS_INVALID_HANDLE

I am working on a codebase with IDF v4.4.5 and have encountered a problem where initially NVS works fine, both reading and writing.

However as soon as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is initialized, the NVS read continue to work while the NVS save starts to fail with error ESP_ERR_NVS_INVALID_HANDLE (0x1107).

Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, how was it mitigated?
