Closing of Olimpic games ceremony LED lights in crowd

I am wandering is that achieved with ESP32 controllers?
Each visitor of closing ceremony got a LED light bracelet and all of them were in sync allowing formation of "audience BIG LED PANEL"

Can that be made even better with mesh networking or some other mechanism for sync? Some ideas?
