ESP32-C3-Mini WiFi stops responding during EMC immunity testing

Postby oliverlc » Mon Feb 27, 2023 12:20 pm

We have found during EMC testing that the ESP32-C3-Mini module stops communicating via Wi-Fi when subject to external interference at 3V/m.

The frequencies that cause the issue are in the range 2.15Ghz to 2.28Ghz and 2.5Ghz to 2.8Ghz. The 2.28Ghz to 2.5Ghz range is an exclusion band due to the deliberate Wi-Fi transmissions.

We've found that the module stops responding to pings whenever it is subject to these frequencies at 3V/m. This has been observed on both our target board incorporating the module, and the devkit-m development boards.

Further testing shows that the failure mode is the module can no longer receive packets and continues to transmit packets in the same way it would if the router has just been turned off.

Is this expected/known behaviour? What immunity testing has been carried out on the module as part of its certifications? Would it be possible to get a copy of the CE test report to understand if our tests are correct?

Many thanks,

Oliver

Suggest sending a mail to sales@espressif.com too; there's people with more experience in EMC stuff they can call in.

Hi,

During lab testing our product is showing similar behaviour at 2.6Ghz radiated Immunity testing (3V/m). EUT stops responding to the ping at 2.6Ghz.
