You need to remove the shield on ESP32-WROVER module, then it is quite easy to replace the flash chip.
You must use the 1.8V chip like:
W25Q128FWSIG from US distributor - expensive
or
W25Q128FWSIG from China distributor - cheap
You can use the same chip as external SPI Flash.
You can't "calibrate 3.3 V Flash memory to 1.8V", you have to use the Flash chip version for 1.8V.
Here is my ESP32-WROVER module soldered on ESP32-WROVER-KIT v3 board with shield removed:

Thanks for suggestions for this.
SO, it will be quite long process to remove shielded box, remove 4 MB Internal SPI Flash Memory, insert 16 MB SPI Flash Memory and fit shielded box again. Still, I will check with our Production Team that it is possible for 5000 to 6000 PCs as we are designing those boards in our in house.
Are you suggesting to use 1.8 V supported external 16 MB SPI Flash Memory instead of 3.3V supported memory if we plan to connect separate SPI Flash Memory?

Re: Need help to connect external 16 MB SPI Flash Memory on ESP32-WROVER Kit
If you are doing 6k pcs doesn't that meet the minimum for custom flash size order?

I am sure about exact value for our board. But would you please tell me how many minimum quantity required to make custom SPI Flash based ESP32-WROVER-I module?
I think our PCB engineer had already talked with Espressif System but I didn't remember exact count for that

Re: Need help to connect external 16 MB SPI Flash Memory on ESP32-WROVER Kit
I thought it was around 5k. Even if it is more, wouldn't you rather spend the money on extra modules that you can use or resell rather than waste parts and labor for a workaround?

It would certainly be too time-consuming (and expensive) to change the chip on 5000 modules.
For that amount of boards it would be best not to use the module at all, but designe the board with bare ESP32 chip. Of course, if you can find the supplier for psRAM chip (Espressif or Lyontek)
AnalogLamb is using Lyontek LY68S3200 on ALB32-WROVER module.

I have confirmed quantity with our hardware engineer and it is around 100 to 200 modules right now.

Thanks for quick feedback.
Let me check what is feasible solution for our requirement and will get back to you if any issue or need any help regarding same.

Re: Need help to connect external 16 MB SPI Flash Memory on ESP32-WROVER Kit
Was curious whether you determined how you are going to resolve.
We are finding that 4MB will not be enough and cannot go with MOQ 5000 in order to have Espressif increase memory size.

We had finalized to use 1.8 v supported external memory and also finalized to change default memory as external memory instead of internal memory.
So, with that we can use external memory as well as 4 MB PSRAM for more memory allocation purpose.
Let me know if need any help regarding this as e had already did it and started development using that configurations
