ESP32 Wrover B PCB Design

Postby Jay Vadoliya » Mon Apr 11, 2022 8:34 am

After Some problems in previous board I am designing new board with ESP32 Wrover B and i am using reference design of module but there are some questions that i want to ask before sending this design to PCB routing.

1.Why IO22 and IO21 is pulled up ?
2.Is there any other protection required in power supply of ESP32-Wrover(like Transient Surepression and Overvoltage)
3.Is it overkill to add 470uf Capacitor in power supply?
4.What are some important things to consider while PCB routing of module?

Hi,
1.Why IO22 and IO21 is pulled up ?
2.Is there any other protection required in power supply of ESP32-Wrover(like Transient Surepression and Overvoltage)
3.Is it overkill to add 470uf Capacitor in power supply?
4.What are some important things to consider while PCB routing of module?
1 - Why did you pulled-up IO22 and IO21?
2 - It's on our Reference Design one TVS in the 3V3 supply.
3 - It depends on your power supply. For your design, I think it is, but I don't know about your power supply capabilities.
4 - You can see all reference design material from Espressif. You can follow all the best practices from this document.

We did working Prototype with LILYGO Board so for reference we used schematic of same board. In schematic of board IO21 & IO22 is pulled up.
5V power supply is taken From Industrial SMPS which can deliver 3 to 4 amps

schematic file is attached.

If you take a look at the schematics, you will see that the IP5306-I2C is connected to the IO21 and IO22.

Thanks

what about 470uf capacitor i dont generally see this heavy capacitor on any board

I see no advantage in using this large capacitor since you have a good power source.
