ESP32-Wroover-E: looking for an I/O shield

Postby nounours18200 » Fri Mar 25, 2022 3:30 pm

Hi,

I have received a "ESP32-DEVKITC-VE" like this one: https://www.tme.eu/fr/details/esp32-dev ... espressif/
and I am looking for a development shield that ease with the debugging, I mean something like this: https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005003309403141.html

My problem is there are many boards available and many modules, so I am looking for one compatible with my ESP32-DEVKITC-VE.

My board has 19 pins on each side, and the distance between the pins alignment is 25mm: see the attached image.

I have seen that other ESP modules such as the ESP32-WROOM modules only have 18 pins on each side, so I suppose that the development shield are not compatible... what a mess for a newbye in the ESP32 world like me!

Can you tell what shield I should buy ? (preferably from Aliexpress or banggood because I live in Europe)

Thank you very much,

For the ESP32-DevKitC I'm not sure if you'll find something. Designing your own and making the PCB in a low-cost PCB manufacturer is sometimes a big deal.

It is what I have done: I have designed my own PCB..; If your are interested by the Gerber files, just ask !

I am a newbye in the ESP32 world: can you give me your opinion on this ESP32-DevKitC compared to other ESP32 modules ? is it a good choice or are there better modules around ?

it seemed to me that it was a modern and powerful module, but maybe i am wrong: there are so many different modules (WROOM 32, etc...) that I do not clearly see its advantages or disadvantages compared with the other modules.

Thank you for your reply,
Michel

It's hard to say without knowing your application.

The basic module selection could be done by your requirements only, but to give you an idea, the ESP32 modules are divided in:

WROOM - No PSRAM
WROVER - With PSRAM
MINI - Single Core, No PSRAM

For all the modules versions, you can pick the external antenna version (IPEX antenna) and for some models, you can also choose the flash memory size.
The MINI series is a good choice if space is a problem, however, the MINI is single core (ESP32-U4WDH).
If you need more RAM, the WROVER is the best choice.

You can see all the modules versions here: https://www.espressif.com/en/products/modules
