Which external flash can I use with ESP32?

Hi all,
I'm working on a project where I'll be using an ESP32-D0WD-V3. For the flash, I'm willing to use a device I already own, Micron's 4MB NOR SPI flash N25Q032A. I couldn't find any documentation on what flash chips are supported with the ESP (to boot from, i.e. using the memory mapping feature). Should this chip be supported? Is there any list of all supported chips?
Another question I have - when working with external flash, how exactly the flashing (using JTAG) works? As far as I understand, the debug probe is connected to the ESP itself, which should be empty then, but the firmware itself is then somehow written to the SPI flash. I'll be happy to understand what exactly is going on in this process.
