I have a product that I've been selling for about 3 years, based on the ESP32 WROOM-32 module.
I've just programmed and testeda group of 50 units, and came across 6 units that seemed to run fine, but WOULD NOT connect to an access point (even though they are able to host a Soft AP).
On investigation I determined that:
1) All of the failing ESP32's had a mac address of 00:00:00:00:00:00
2) All of the failing modules reported: Chip is ESP32-D0WDQ6 (revision 0) during programming
3) On boot up, all of the failing modules send garbage instead of the normal boot inormation.
Note: The other units that do work all identify as ESP32-D0WD-V3 (revision 3)
Is this behavior normal for ESP32-D0WDQ6 (revision 0) modules or are they Bad, or worse, Counterfeit?
Phil.
