[beginner] need some help connecting an esp32-wroom-32u (dev board) to my pc

so i have two esp32-wroom-32u's and they both connected to my pc just fine after i set up arduino ide and install the serial to usb chip driver but now when i plug in one of them the light on the board is dimmer and it wont connect to my pc. i know it's not the led because i was bored and plugged in the one that works and stacked one on the other. can anyone offer some guidance on where to go from here

update: i did some testing, i noticed that to rectifier wasn't warming up when plugged in through usb so i hacked up a spare usb cord and wire it directly to the 5v and ground pins, the led shined at the same brightness it used to and the rectifier was slightly warm (same as the working one)
