ESP-PROG - Questions about installation

Postby Accept86 » Wed Jun 21, 2023 8:33 am

Hi,

I used a J-Link Plus for ESP32 debugging so far, and it was working, but I had two issues with it:
1. The necessary WinUSB driver did get corrupted by Windows(10) every now and then, making it necessary to run Zadig again, which needs admin rights also...
2. In Visual Studio Code, debugging worked, but I could only use play, pause, and step instructions. Restart didn't work.
Meaning I had to reflash the device, and start debugging again to restart debugging.

Now we bought a ESP-PROG debugger, but beforehand:
1. Do those issues get fixed with using ESP-PROG Software and hardware?
2. Do I still need to run Zadig to install the Driver for ESP-Prog? Does Windows(10) still corrupt the driver?
3. Does the OpenOCD ESPIDF_Tools rollout come with the right ESP-Prog interface driver? I took a short look in C:\ESPIDF_Tools\tools\openocd-esp32\v0.12.0-esp32-20230419\openocd-esp32\share\openocd\scripts\interface
And cant find it... (ESP-IDF 5.1 rc1 related)

For the MCU's I want to debug/program:
The ones from ESP32-WROOM-32 Modules
and
ESP32-D0WDR2-V3 mcu's
from ESP32WROVER E modules.

best regards
