I was able to get this working with a Classic BT device. BUMP...just bringing this back to the top. The lack of responses seem to confirm that sending a pair request FROM the ESP32 is not possible.

Thanks ESP_Sprite! That got me going with using integers....I am fighting the additional 3 bytes when using an array of integers but I will try to solve that myself...helps with learning techniques.
