I just discovered the same issue. Worked perfectly on the 4MB version.
Were you able to resolve this?

Note - I'm using the ESP32-WROVER-IE(16MB) after upgrading from the ESP32-WROVER-IB (4MB)
Same SPI pins as above but with the SD_CS on IO25.
